About

Let a fellow author treat your book how they'd treat their own babies (and trust me, I've got a lot of them; my house looks like a very fancy zoo!). I provide personalized editorial services to polish your manuscript to publishing perfection!

Café Amare Writing provides all three types of editorial services:

  • Developmental editing

  • Line/Copy editing

  • Proofreading

In addition, I also offer KDP-ready formatting and blurb copy for an additional $25!

You can use the full suite of editorial services, mix and match, or choose a la carte—it's completely up to you!

I work with all genres (fiction & nonfiction) and do not require content warnings. However, I will not work with manuscript developed by AI, as I am firmly against GenAI stealing authors' work!

I offer free coffee chats for authors to yap about their books and discuss editorial needs while we get to know each other. If you'd like to take advantage, book a chat with the button below!

How it works:

01) Optional Coffee Chat

We'll have a coffee chat via Google Meet to discuss your book(s), editorial needs, timelines, deadlines, budget, and anything I should know about you and your brand. In the process, you'll get to know all about me and the work I do!

After the call, I'll put together a sample contract and send it your way. From there, we'll communicate any final changes to the project details. Find an example author contract here.

Note: I will NEVER put your manuscript through an AI system. I include this clause in our contract!

If you haven't already, book a coffee chat here.

02) Signed Contract & Completed Deposit

Once we've ironed out the details, I'll send over a final contract for you to review and sign. The first deposit (usually 25%, unless otherwise stated) will be due before we begin work. Find an example contract here.

For more information about payment plans and methods, click here. I offer flexible payment plans and discounts for low income & new authors!

03) Editorial Rounds

In accordance with the contract terms, I'll go through and do as many rounds of edits as we agreed to. Typically, I do one round of developmental edits and two rounds of line/copy edits or proofreading.

04) Extra Edits & Special Requests

If anything in my work isn't living up to your expectations, just let me know and I'll fix it for free! The only time I won't do extra edits is if you request something WAAAAAAY outside the original scope of work—and trust me, it takes a lot to get there!

05) Delivery of Final Work

Once all the edits are completed and you are satisfied with my work, I'll deliver it as outlined in the contract. Typically, I deliver two documents, a clean edited copy and a tracked changes copy via Google Docs or Word.

06) Final Payments & Testimonial Request

Final payments will be due within the agreed upon timeframe (i.e., 7 days after the invoice is sent). I usually require final payments be completed right after I deliver the final work; these details will be covered in the contract.

After the work is completed, I will send you a testimonial request, which will be a simple Google Form asking about your experience working with me. I really appreciate any feedback you can provide—this both helps me improve as a writer/editor and helps future clients when deciding to work with me!

FAQs

What's included with each edit?

My developmental edits include in-line comments and an editorial letter. Find an example of an editorial letter here.

My line/copy edits include two pass-throughs looking for line-by-line inconsistencies. You will receive a tracked changes copy and a clean copy of the editorial work to review.

My proofreads include two pass-throughs looking for final grammar and syntax mistakes. You will receive a tracked changes copy and a clean copy of the editorial work to review.

What if you want me to be your editor long-term?

Um, AWESOME! I'd be happy to be your editor for the long run! I prefer long-term client relationships to one-off projects any day of the week.

After we complete the initial editing project, we'll keep in touch as your next book develops. We'll figure out exactly when the next editing project will happen as we go; there's never any pressure to rush and meet deadlines with me. In fact, I'll be your cheerleader the whole time, even if it takes you years to create another masterpiece!
